About this product
In the 1930s, horseback riding on Atlantic City beaches was a popular hobby. This photo of an unidentified couple riding on an Atlantic City beach was part of an article published in The Philadelphia Inquirer on March 12, 1939, highlighting the crowds enjoying the Atlantic City sun during an unseasonably mild weather.
"Equestrians here were never discouraged during even the middle of winter; now they are incorrigible. Besides the broad flat strand of white beach sand that fronts this island, horsemen, inclined to the rural, can hire spirited steeds for caners through country lanes."
This photo was taken by an Inquirer staff photographer.
